Dim Sum

Posted in Food by steveonedotcom on July 7, 2009

I hear a lot of people talking about Dim Sum and how it’s good, and how I should try it. It sounds interesting, and I’m totally down to eat some Dim Sum, but it’s only available certain hours of the day in which those hours I’m usually at work.

I also hear  alot of different meanings for the words Dim Sum. Some people have told me that it means “Morning Food,” and other people have told me that it means “In-between-meals food.” I’m just going to go with Wikipedia.org’s meaning:

dimsum

Dim sum (literally meaning “a bit of heart”) is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese Tea.

The other day my friend Don and I went to  eat Dim Sum.  It was a Friday that I had off because of the 4th of July weekend Holiday. He called me up, said let’s get some dim sum, scooped me up, and we headed out to China Town. The place we went to, Empress was in this shopping center, in the middle of China Town right off the 11o Freeway Hill exit. This was a first time experience for me, I didn’t know that servers come up to you and ask if you want what they have on their cart. I got the hang of it and just went order-crazy! It was good, and I love how you can get a little bit of everything, as opposed to most restaurants where you can order anything you want, but then  it’ll be super expensive, and you probably wouldn’t be able to eat everything due to portion size.

Anyway, small portions + cheap prices = you can try mostly everything they offer. I loved the shrimp, and the sticky bun wasn’t bad either
